You are a Masterpiece and a Work in Progress at the Same Time

What if I told you that 4% of women feel beautiful about themselves? What if I told you that 80% of women feel that women as a whole has something beautiful to offer, but they don't see their own beauty? What if I told you that 54% of women know they are their own worst critic when it comes to their looks? What if I told you that 25% of people over the age of 25 have acne? And what if I told you that 62% of people in the US have sensitive skin?


Do any of these statistics shock you? I could pick out several! I had no idea so many women don't feel beautiful about themselves and I had on idea how many people struggle with skin concerns.



So friend, if you don't feel beautiful about yourself or if you have concerns about your skin, you are not alone. I know it's hard. I spent years battling acne and the acne scars that followed. It is so easy to beat yourself up when your skin isn't acting the way you want it to. It's like an instant mood killer. But please try to refrain from negative thoughts and be kind to yourself. How your skin is acting is not your fault.


Skin is the largest organ in your body and it's probably the most finicky. So many things can cause your skin to freak out at any moment: stress, the weather, sugar, build up, make up, how you sleep and how much sleep you get, and even genetics. But did you know that 80% of how healthy your skin is depends on how you treat it; 20% of its health depends on genetics? The good news is that you are in control here!


Here are some best practices for keeping your skin healthy and glowing all year long:


1. Adopt a skincare routine that consists of a cleanser, toner, hydration serum, moisturizer, and eye cream.


2. Exfoliate once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and encourage new cell production.


3. Use SPF everyday (even when it's cloudy and during the Fall/Winter). For tips on how to keep your skin healthy during Fall, read this blog post


4. Use an acne wash and face mask once a week to keep blackheads and breakouts at bay.


5. Wipe your face with a tissue throughout the day to remove any excess oil and dirt that has built up during the day. Your skin will thank you for it.
